Newton (north) *Great Divide Campground* Aug 2015

We choose this CG due to it’s proximity to my BFF and also to Dover Train Station, which offers service into NYC.

We really liked this place.  Their sites (at least the one we were on) are HUGE.  Our friends that were traveling with us also had a great site, right next to us.  It was a bit of a challenge getting into the spot due to the angle of the gravel “pad”, but once parked, it was great.

the site was HUGE!
the site was HUGE!

Their roads need some TLC.  The pitch of some of the roads are steep, but we took our time and we were fine.   Also of note, they accept reservations for big-rigs, yet where they put us was 30 amp electric, or should I say, they claimed it was 30 amp service.  It quickly became apparent it was not “true” 30 amp service, which prompted a call to the office.  A couple of guys came down and tried to do something to fix it, to no avail.  After Bill talked to them, the next morning the owner himself came over and brought a voltage regulator or power conditioner and the electric worked much better after that.

We also quickly learned that this owner is very serious about his rules.  I say this b/c another camper, who had rented out the cabin a few sites down from us, had some damage to the bicycles she had on the back of her car.  She went into the office and tried to blame it on the road conditions, which didn’t help, but truth be told, she didn’t have them on the rack correctly and they were hanging too low.  Anyway, she was not hearing what she wanted to hear (the office staff agreeing to fix her bikes) and she then became angry and started raising her voice and swearing, etc. at everyone in the office.  The owner came down to the site later on and told her she needed to leave, which started this whole new scene.  He calmly explained to her that they do not allow people to verbally abuse their employees and she could either leave peacefully and he would return her money, or she could continue to fight with him and he would call the State Troopers to have her escorted off the property and then she would receive no refund.  Once she realized he was serious, she packed up her car and left, but not after more swearing and actually yelling at Bill b/c he went over to try and show her how to correctly put the bikes on the rack.  What a mess!  The owner stayed calmer than I would have, I have to give him credit for that!

This CG has a very nice pool and lake area.  It is all well maintained and clean.  They obviously take pride in their CG.  They also have a bunch of really cool wooden totems, carved out of trees all around the property.  It is very quiet and peaceful.  It is a great location for seeing North Jersey, and also a short drive to Dover Train Station, which offers direct service into NYC Penn Station.

One negative was the lack of Verizon signal.  They do have cable TV, and it was pretty good.

This was a “Like ‘Em”, even though it was over budget.  We will seriously consider it again for a visit to this area.  Sadly, there aren’t any other options for our almost 40’ rig.
