Thanksgiving Day dinners, 2 down – 2 to go!

We were enjoying a campfire and adult beverages on Saturday evening, with Nancy & Neil, Laurie & George, and Gerard & Lacretia when we got the BEST automated call from Amazon!  They cancelled mandatory OT for the following day – Sunday!  We supposed to be working all 50 hour weeks for the rest of our time here, so especially considering it was going to be a gorgeous day – we were thrilled!

Sunday was the gorgeous weather day the weatherman promised and we decided to get to one more distillery.  This one is considered a “craft” distillery, Willett.  It’s in Bardstown, right next door to a much larger, better known distillery, Heaven Hill.

The tour was ok, the young girl was very personable, but was really not educated about the whole thing.  You could tell she was just telling what she had been told to say and when asked a direct question, she kind of just made some deductions all on her own.  Stuff about why they use copper stills, why they are better, something about how the taxes are paid on different stages of the process.  For example, she said that the cost of a bottle of bourbon is determined by how much of it is left in the barrel when they drain the barrel.  That just isn’t true.  She also said the longer you leave a barrel, there will be less in it (partly true) but that one particular barrel only had enough to make 2 bottles of bourbon (out of 53 gallons!), so they didn’t even make it b/c the bottles would have had to sell for $600 a bottle, so they just gave it away.  CRAZY – never happened.  Not that way anyway.  First off, IF there was only that much left, it would be b/c there was a leak in the barrel, not all due to evaporation, which she implied.  I mean, we all love a good story as much as the next guy, but Bill just shakes his head when the tour people just say stuff and people just believe it b/c they expect it to be true, sadly, sometimes it isn’t.

Bill made a batch of Grandma Murrays Mac and Cheese!  He added some ham chunks into it so we can have it for our lunches!  (recipe here: Grandma Murrays Baked Mac and Cheese)

All was good at Amazon this week.  We actually were served 2 turkey and ham dinners for Thanksgiving, one on Monday and one on Thursday.  Turkey, ham, dressing (cornbread stuffing), cranberry sauce, roll, green beans, mashed potatoes, gravy and choice of pecan or pumpkin pie.  We got an extra 15 minutes added to our lunch time too!  That was probably the best part!   I might add, so the title of todays post makes sense, we will be having 2 more Thanksgiving Day dinners before the season is over, on Thanksgiving Day, we are going out to dinner at a local restaurant, with 32 other Camperforce Amazonians!  And, then on Saturday the 28th, our campground is hosting a dinner, they will provide the turkey, ham, and rolls and we are asked to bring a side dish or maybe dessert to share.

Bill has still been averaging around 30,000 steps per day!  That is about 15’ish miles!  Crazy amount of walking!  Packing has been ok, a bit of female “cattiness”, which you really would hope would be long gone since we are all supposed to be adults.  Sadly, you get so many women in one place, there is bound to be an attempt at establishing the hierarchy by the long-term regular employees.  I have very little patience for that kind of crap, but when someone yells at me like I am a 5 year-old child, I have a hard time keeping my mouth shut.  I actually accomplished it by just turning my back on the woman.  Literally, just showed her my back, she just wasn’t worth it.

This week coming up starts “peak”.  A week from today is Black Friday, followed quickly by Cyber Monday.  We will be able (if we want) to work 11 hour days from Nov 27 through Dec 5.  Regular employees are required, but Camperforce people are not.  We also cannot use those extra hours toward our mandatory OT, even if we work 4 extra hours our “regular” work days, we will still be required to work our mandatory 10 hour OT day.  We have decided to play it by ear and see how we feel before deciding if we want to stay the extra hour or not.  As of today, Friday, Nov. 20, we have 24 days to work, unless (hopefully) we get out of here the 21st or 22nd of Dec.  That would be preferred over leaving on the 23rd, but at least I found out 100% today that our last day will only be a 5 hour day.  We could get out out of work at 5pm and drive a few hours if we really want to, we shall see!

Today, Nancy, Laurie and I went for pedicures!  Well deserved pedicures (and in my case way overdue!) I might add!  It was wonderful to relax in the massage chairs and get our feet all pretty!

While we were getting our feet taken care of, Bill and Neil went to visit Mammoth Caves, which is about an hour away.  Neil had never been there before, and they picked a tour that Bill hadn’t done so it would be new to him as well.  They brought back some pics for me to share with you!  Bill says he wishes the pics had come out better, but they do not allow flash pics in the caves.

  1. Funny how your guide seems to throw out random “facts” on your tour. It would be fun to be a tour guide and just make up stuff as you go along!

    1. Yea – I guess it would be – just say whatever pops into your head – but sadly most people believe it!

Hope all is well with you guys!

  2. Glad all is still going well. That sounds nice about the two Thanksgiving meals. One of my favorite meals so I would love that. I didn’t realize it got that cold there. BURRR. The older I get the more I hate the cold. You have the warm temps coming soon. Have a great week Kelly and a very Happy Thanksgiving.

    1. It does get cold here – but usually doesn’t stay THAT cold for long – maybe a few days. Tomorrow night it is going to be in the high 20’s and by Thankggiving back into the 60’s in the daytime. Crazy temp changes in a short time!

Hope you and your family have a great Thanksgiving also!

  3. So happy you got a pedicure …you deserve it!!! Also turning your back on someone who is bothering you. Fantastic!! Good for you. Hang in there..almost done 🙂

  4. It wasn’t easy to refrain from going Jersey on her – but I managed. LOL!
23 work days left – unless they let us out early – I’m hoping to be pulling out of here on the 21st!

  5. Another welcomed blog, Kelly. Great pics by Bill too….Morris says hello to each of you. Glad your time for a change and into warmer weather are not too far in the distance.
If people of arrogance could fly, sounds like that ‘woman’ is close to being a rocket ship. So glad you didn’t react to her acting out. Maybe your refusal to re-act to her acting out will help her realize just how unacceptable to society she really is.
We are in MB, SC. Will be here until 12/5. Skies are gorgeous blue with bright sunshine today. Our high will be 52 and low tonight will be 43 according to the forecasted weather. Better here than back at our primary home. Winters get longer every year !!!
Wishing you a wonderful Thanksgiving, continued good health and happy travels to warmer weather.
Love, Hugs & Prayers for you.

    1. So glad to hear you are in warmer temps! It is COLD here! So glad you were able to get to out to MB! I know you were looking forward to it!

We are counting down the days til we are done here! Can’t go fast enough!

Love and hugs to you and Morris and Omega!
