Counting Down…

Here I sit, at Due Dirty Laundry, on a dreary Saturday.  Hell week has started at Amazon, although I have to say, Black Friday was a non-event.  They had us all hyped up – all hands on deck – PLEASE stay the extra hour (we did not) – etc. etc. etc.  We were expecting above average chaos, craziness and mayhem.  We saw no more of it than usual.  Maybe that was a good thing.  Even the Amazon “regulars” said it was a very quiet Black Friday compared to years past.  Maybe Cyber Monday will be the REALLY crazy day – we shall see.

We did enjoy our Thanksgiving Day.  It was mostly quiet, except for going to dinner with our fellow Amazonians, a total of 34 of us!  I was very pleased so many made it out!  My thought, when organizing it and making the reservation, was “if we can’t be with our families, we may as well be together”.

The food at Creek Side Family Resaurant was very good.  It was recommended by fellow Amazon employees, both CamperForce and regular workers.  They served the food buffet style and it was all fresh and delicious.  Turkey (all off bone – like it had fallen off – was so tender!), ham, mashed potatoes, stuffing, green beans, corn, homemade gravy, cranberry sauce, dinner rolls, peach cobbler, pecan pie, and pumpkin pie.  Bill said there was also apple cobbler but I never saw it.  Oh – all all kinds of salad fixings.  Just wish we could have had some left overs.   Oh well, maybe next year.

We have all mandatory 50 hour weeks now until we leave, although we can do up to 60 if we want.  Don’t think I’m up for that!  This week coming up we can do 11 hour days instead of 10 if we want.  Might try to and see.  I’ll let you know.

Well, we just got back from our campground Thankgiving dinner.  There was a HUGE turnout – probably about 60 people!  They offered 2 times – one was 3:30pm for the night shift people and we went to the 6:30pm one, for day shifters.  It was almost standing room only except they brought in extra chairs and some people sat on the couches and other TV watching chairs.  The CG owners provided ham, turkey and fried chicken (we are in KY!), rolls, drinks and plates/utensils.  Everyone that came brought a dish to share so there were all kinds of goodies!   Bill made Grandma Murray’s Carrot Cake and it was all gone!  No worry though – he made a double batch so we have some for the upcoming week!  It was nice to relax with other Camperforce people, catching up with friends we already knew and meeting some new ones!

OH – almost forgot something we are working on!  Bill decided he wanted to do something different for the kids.  Well, since we are in bourbon country, he decided he wanted to do a tasting with the kids.  We didn’t want them to be influenced or decide which they liked best based on how much they cost (let’s face it, the more expensive ones are USUALLY better, but not always!), so he bought some plain 4oz bottles and we filled them and labeled them #1 – #6 and packed them up and when we can, we will be sending them UPS.  Seems if we send them USPS we would be breaking the law, however, sending them UPS only breaks their rules.  BIG difference!  I think they (UPS) will be ok.

Guess that’s all for now – I’m afraid my posts won’t be too exciting til we head out for FL, I’m really hoping we are out of here the 21st at the latest!

    1. You are very welcome! I was glad to do it! I didn’t get a pic of you and George! We need to remedy that – I want one for my digital frame!

  1. Wonderful post! I really enjoyed seeing pictures of our friends at Amazon. Still feels bitter / sweet!

  2. So glad you enjoyed a nice Thanksgiving Day with coworkers, friends and your hubby. It was well deserved I believe.
Lifting prayers for you to leave on the 21st for warmer weather and a different ‘view’. Hugs.

  3. Sounds like you had a nice Thanksgiving. So happy to hear that. I guess you have had your fill of turkey now. LOL. I hope the next few weeks are good for you and you get on the road on the 21st. I am sure it will be here before you know it. Have a great Sunday and enjoy the rest of your week. I really enjoy your post each and every time.

  4. Enjoyed the update and your continuous “go get them” spirit with Amazon. We enjoyed our quick visit with Cori and Greg, and are now persevering through the fourth solid day of rain at our place in Arkansas. We are planning to leave on Thursday to begin our journey west.

Big HUG to you and Bill…Pam

    1. I saw on Cori’s blog you guys had a few days together – jealous! Let us know where you will be so we can find you when we arrive – around mid-Feb! I’ll keep you updated!
      Miss you! Hugs!

  6. Not boring at all. Like to hear anything you have to say about working at Amazon. Glad you had such a nice Thanksgiving too. Best wishes!

  7. Hi,

This is just a note to let you know how much my wife and I are enjoying your blog. It’s great that you share so many aspects of RV life, from campgrounds to good eats to maintenance. Being writers, we’re also hoping to do a chronicle of our lives on the road, and in a couple of months I’ll be publishing a book on how to rent an RV.

We also live in New Jersey (Dunellen), and we are looking forward to going 3/4 time in the fall of 2017 when I retire at 60 and our kids head off to college. So, pretty soon it’s time to start getting rid of stuff!

At this point we are in the research phase for buying a Class A. Can you let us know the dealer you bought from, and how satisfied you’ve been with follow up service (if any)? Our plan is to buy used, but every bit of information helps!

Meanwhile, I’m praying that Kelly’s knees continue to hold up for the next few weeks. Hopefully we will someday meet up on the road!

    Thanks, Jeff & Kathy Wildrick

    1. Hi Jeff and Kathy! Thanks so much for reading – I’m so glad you are enjoying it!
We purchased our home at Crossroads Trailer Sales in Vineland NJ. As the name implies, I believe they only sell towables, but I am not 100% sure as we were only looking at 5th wheels. We received good service and they even warrantied awnings they added so Heartland could fix them while we were at the factory.
So far, knock on wood, my knees have been good since I’ve been in packing. Thanks for the prayers!
Good luck on your book – how exciting!
Keep in touch and let me know how your plans go!
