I left off saying goodbye to Red & Pam and heading back to Pahrump. It was sad but also exciting, as we would be attending our 6th RV Dreams Rally! There would be two solar installs for Bill, one starting before the rally, the other during, and I would be acting as Linda’s “assistant.” There would be new friends to meet, as the only people we would have met before would be Howard & Linda.
We arrived after a windy drive through the desert. Bill said it was the most he’s ever felt wind, which is saying a lot. I felt my car being blown and since I followed, I could tell when the gusts hit the 5er. While noticeable, it wasn’t bad enough that we had to pull over.
It was easy to find Nevada Treasure. Bill was led to our site and got parked quickly. It was an odd site, as it faced the parking lot. We’ve had that at the Elks a couple of times, but not at a campground. It wasn’t a big deal, as we would be moving at the end of the week.
What a great location! The campground is very nicely landscaped with beautiful facilities. It’s a bit outside of town so very quiet. There was flowers, including a rose garden. Amazing pool area, with a waterfall feature and hot tub. Howard & Linda picked a great place for the rally!
We arrived fairly early and later that afternoon, Bill’s first install arrived. We went over to introduce ourselves to Mike. He was alone, except for his cute little dog, his wife opted to stay home while he drove out to get the install.
After initial introductions, Bill got right to work looking at how the job would be done, planning for the panel location, where wires would be run, etc.
Being this was a smaller job, Bill completed it in two days. Mike was very happy with the results, which makes Bill (and I) very happy. Mike, his wife and their grandkids will be able to boondock as long as their tanks hold out!
In the meantime, Howard & Linda were going through some major transitions. They decided to downsize, meaning sell their 5er/truck combo and purchase a Class C motorhome. They had talked about this at the Reunion Rally at length, saying they thought this would happen sometime after a long-planned trip to Iceland in August. Well, not ones to waste time after a decision was made, in the short 2 weeks between the end of the Reunion Rally and our arrival back here, they made their purchase, sold their combo, and purchased a new toad. (Their Jeep wasn’t the type that could be towed 4 wheels down) The “old” jeep is now for sale.
We neglected to get a pic, but we had Howard & Linda over for dinner one night. I made Instant Pot Pot Roast with mashed potatoes and carrots. It was a nice, quiet evening catching up and spending some quality time with them, before the craziness of the rally was starting.
We were excited to get the tour of their new place – which Linda has dubbed “The Shimmy Shuffle Cottage” – and it is adorable! I have to be honest when I say I’m not sure I could full-time in a 29′ Class C, but it is exactly what they were looking for, so we are happy for them! They want to be able to travel more nimbly, and boondock in places they can’t get into with a 40′ Fifth Wheel. I’m very curious to see how it goes. You can follow along with them HERE.
While Bill was completing the install, people that were attending the rally started arriving. As we became aware of them, we went and introduced ourselves. It is so cool for us to see their excitement at being here, most of them newbies, like we were 4 years ago!
We spent an afternoon seeing one of the sites in the area, Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Maybe at a different time of year, there would be more wildlife, but we didn’t really see any, except for the fish that live in the spring water. It was an interesting afternoon though, exploring the oasis in the middle of the desert.
Saturday night was Karaoke in the Grill, right in the campground. Linda sang two songs, while Howard and I did one together, American Pie by Don McLean, which is long enough to be two songs at least. Linda, Chris (a rally attendee and new friend) and I sang “RESPECT”. If I could change one thing about myself – it would be my voice! I LOVE to sing, but I am so not good at it! We had a great time and some early arrivals for the rally joined us as well.

So glad to see how well the solar installs are working out! Hope to see you soon💕
Thanks Ellen! He has been busy! We will be back in FL, probably late December’ish for, I think, 2 months. We will have to plan a meet-up!
I’m working on a guy for a solar install. And when we get our trailer that could make two for installs. How many do you need to come to Kansas City?
Ha! I’ll send you an email.
Glad to see the solar installs have gone well, Kelly. Great to get to hang with Howard and Linda, especially being able to offer help during their big RV transition! Enjoy!
We’ve really been enjoying spending time with H&L! Bill just finished their solar yesterday! Thanks!
Looks like a nice campground. Wish we could have been there for the rally. I am sure it was great. Have a great week. Can’t wait to hear where you are headed next.
Chris
It was a nice CG – the spots with the “backyard” were especially nice! You will get to a rally and it will be awesome!
We can’t wait. I know it will be great when we finally get to a rally. Have a wonderful week.
Thanks Chris – you too!
