We learned we would be able to move into our seasonal site at Hickory Hollow Campground on Saturday, April 13. Since Bill had several installs coming up, we decided to take a week and go see Billy the week before. We said our “see ya laters!” to Michelle, Derek and Freya. I wasn’t sure how it would go being away, but it was time to find out.
We arrived at our home Elks Lodge to learn they hadn’t turned on the water at the sites yet. Thankfully one of the trustees was there and was able to turn it on for us. Bill got us parked and we headed out to see Billy.
Our week flew by, as it always does. Even though we’ve visited this area many times, we managed to do some new things.
One gorgeous weather day, we took a walk in a local park, Lancaster County Central Park.
We hiked along the trail and we came upon Rock Ford Plantation. There was a tour starting in 15 minutes, so we decided to take it.
From their website:
“Rock Ford is the preserved 18th Century home of Edward Hand who served as Adjutant General to George Washington during the American Revolution. Today, Rock Ford is comprised of 33 acres at the southeastern edge of Lancaster City surrounded by Lancaster County Central Park. The mansion is on the National Register of Historic Places and is recorded in the Historic American Building Survey. Rock Ford is widely considered to be one of the most important examples of Georgian domestic architecture surviving in Pennsylvania and the most intact building predating 1800 in Lancaster County. The mansion’s elegant rooms are furnished with an outstanding collection of period furnishings and decorative arts. Rock Ford offers visitors an authentic example of refined country living as it existed during the early years of the Republic.”

We finished our hike around the park when the tour was complete. It was a nice day, and good to be able to be outside enjoying it with my guys!
Twice I drove to the Reading area to meet up with friends. First time was lunch with Cherie. The second time was breakfast with Julie and Denise. Sadly, Lisa couldn’t make it because her dog was sick. I stopped on the way back to Lancaster to say hello, and we promised to get together next time we are nearby.
.
We took a short hike around another Lancaster County Park, Farmingdale Trail. We saw some deer while on our walk.
.
Another day my guys played pool in the lodge, and enjoyed a few beers.
We also spent an evening with Billy at his fav karaoke spot. He sang a couple of songs with a couple of other regulars. Fun!
Our final full day, we spent a few hours at Green Dragon, a large Lancaster County flea market.
