I’ve been trying to get this post written for a week, but life in front of me comes first – getting in the way – so hopefully I can get it done today. Hasn’t helped we haven’t had a great signal where we are now on Assateague Island, neither has having the mighty Atlantic right over the dunes, I’m listening to the crash of waves as I type.
Freya time still filled a lot of my days. I am completely in love with that little girl! As the weeks have passed, I experienced some anxiety about leaving her, but I remind myself she is in excellent hands with her parents.
Our friends, David & Cheryl, stopped by for a couple of days. I’ve followed their blog, Landmark Adventures, for awhile now. As you can infer from the name of their blog, the own a Landmark 5th Wheel, like us. We briefly met them in person back in FL at our picnic (they are also RV Dreamers), but it was awesome to get to know them better.
Their visit started out with a little excitement, as their truck had an issue and they needed to be “rescued” from the side of the road. Bill and I drove about a half hour to get them, Bill hitching their 5er up to our truck to take it to our Hickory Hollow with Cheryl, while I waited with David for the tow truck to come for their truck. It’s one of the perks to having a separate car. Thankfully for them, it wasn’t serious, their turbo hose came off and it was replaced the next day. A quick ride to the Ford dealer and they were back in business!
We spent a day together visiting the Flight 93 Memorial. We’ve told all our clients and visitors about it, and most were completely unaware of it. All who have taken the time to see it have commented on how well done it is. It honors and memorializes the bravery shown by the people who were aboard that doomed flight on that fateful day.
We also enjoyed a couple of meals together before they continued on their way. They are now working for Escapees as their new Hang-Outs organizers. They plan trips and meet-ups, which all sound amazing! Bill and I hope to join in the fun one of these days!
Michelle celebrated her 30th birthday at the end of September. A fun thing we did was visit Haunted Hollow, which was owned by the same people as Hickory Hollow campground. It’s conveniently located right across the street. What a fun evening!
Seven Springs Resort has their annual fall festival and we couldn’t miss out on that! There were bands playing, yummy food and drink for sale and the weather was beautiful!
All around us at the campground people were winterizing and closing up their campers, getting them ready for the cold weather. It was an in-your-face reminder that our departure date was fast approaching.
Packing up was a huge chore, but was made somewhat easier since we had decided to come back to the same site next summer. Bill was able to leave some items in the shed, which freed up room in our basement for install supplies for our FL installs. We won’t be arriving their early enough to have them delivered there, so we need to take them.
Aside from helping with our last install, mostly all my time was spent with Freya and Michelle. I love the way Freya’s whole face lights up when she sees me when I arrive at their house or I open the door to get her out of her car seat at the campground. She is such a happy baby!
The day came and it was time for moving on. We actually delayed our departure for a day as our client had an issue with their slide coming in, so Bill helped them out and fixed it. That put us behind on packing up.
I was horribly sad when we said our “See you soon’s!” to Freya, Michelle and Derek. There may have been some tears. (probably more than “some”)
Our favorite spot at the Ephrata Elks was open when we arrived and Bill got us parked easily. There was a Class A parked, and shortly after a small Class C arrived. The Lodge had made some great improvements to the area by leveling and adding blue stone. The trees looked trimmed back also, and were showing off their beautiful fall colors.
The highlight of our time with Billy was a visit to Field of Screams. It was nearby and rated one of the top haunt attractions in PA. I’ve got to say they do an excellent job on the four haunts.
The only negative was the ridiculous lines. They do offer a VIP “front of the line” pass, which significantly reduces wait times, but at $25 per person, we opted to wait. Actually, a second negative for me was the way we needed to sit on the hay ride. There wasn’t any seats, you literally just sat on hay on the floor of the wagon. That was tough on my knees.
Aside from those things, it was really good. The “Haunted Hayride” had multiple stops where the wagon was “locked in” and we were “attacked” by all sorts of bad people doing bad things. Their walk-through attractions, Den of Darkness, Frightmare Asylum, and Nocturnal Wasteland were all excellent. They’ve been rated the number one extreme haunted attraction by USA Today. It was a special night and I was genuinely scared a couple of times.
While in Lancaster, we also got to have breakfast with and spend the afternoon with my niece, Jaime, and meet her new boyfriend, Karl. It was so awesome to catch up on what’s going on with her.
Last but far from least, our friend Linda joined us at the Elks on her launch into full-time living. Her house is sold, just waiting on the official closing, and she is so excited! Her friend Beryl is joining her for a few months until she moves back to her home country of New Zealand.

Thanks Chris! Next year sounds so far away! Trust all is well with you! Let me know how Franks makes out with repairs!
I am sure it was bittersweet leaving but it looks like you made the most of your time there! Safe travels!
Thank goodness for FaceTime – it’s not the same as physically being there of course, but it helps! Safe travels to you guys also!
As our new chapter begins with moving back into a house, I get wistful reading others’ RV adventures. I will miss the travel and new places. On the other hand, my son and dil will hopefully produce a grandchild one day 🙂 We’ll be living in the same town, so woohoo on that note! You guys are doing well, love and miss the fall colors of PA.
I have been loving our life – but now am torn because of Freya. I love and want my traveling life but also don’t like the idea of missing out on anything with her. The fall colors are amazing! Wishing you much luck and joy in your new home!
