Visiting with friends in Fort Myers

When we left the Keys, it was a bittersweet time.  We loved our time there, but were also looking forward to seeing our friends, Jo and Ben.  As a bonus, we also got to spend time with Gene and Eileen.  Tracy and Lee came to visit from Largo also!

Our first day at UpRiver RV Resort in North Fort Myers, since we have the biggest outside TV, so it was decided that playoff games would be watched at our place – no problem – we always love company!

Our second night in town, we all went out to HogBodys for ribs – Tracy came down all by herself – Lee had to go to school!  Sorry Lee!

Speaking of company, my sister and her friend, Jr came to see us before heading north – into the cold.  Shannon has been down staying with my parents for about a month and was ready to return home.  Thankfully Jr was able to give her a ride, she really didn’t want to fly.  While they were in the area, we visited Sanibel and Captiva Islands.  We walked on the beach, ate Mexican food, and gathered some shells.  It was a very nice day indeed!

Bill and Ben went out fishing a few times, this is the only pic Bill shared, Ben caught a puffer fish!

Speaking of Ben – he celebrated a birthday while we were in town!  So, Jo arranged for us to go out on a sunset sail – what a great time!

Back at the rig later that evening – time for CAKE!

Bill tackled a small project – our bathroom faucet replacement!  First of all, it started leaking.  Bill determined that he probably could fix it, but we HATED it, so off to Lowes for a new one!  I like the new one so much better!

The campground backed up to nature trail area, so we walked it a few times during our stay.

It was a busy month for birthdays – this time it was Gene’s turn!  We all piled into Ben’s truck (again!) and headed for Matlacha, a small funky little town with little shops and restaurants.  Bill got bit by a gator!

Another day, Ben, Jo, Bill and I took a tour of a small Fort Myers rum factory, called Wicked Dolphin.  Jo was a bit concerned, thinking Bill would be bored, having worked in bottling for so many years.  I told her no worries – he would LOVE it, which of course he did.  We all enjoyed it.  Just wish I would have enjoyed the rum more, but we did buy t-shirts!

One of our last nights in Fort Myers, the 4 of us (Eileen and Gene had already moved on) went to a place for dinner, called Ford’s Garage.  Yes, Ford as in Ford Motor Company.  Very cool place, and very yummy!

  1. glad you went to the Wild Dolphin……I will have to tell Janelle. We both like their products at the Wine and Spirits tasting in Dunedin.

  2. Does the fun ever stop? We were in Fort Myers last week as well. We actually drove by the RV Dealership when you were there but did not see your Facebook post until later.
Keep on having fun (like there is any doubt) and we will catch up with you out west sometime next year!

    1. Thanks guys for reading! Bill and I enjoyed meeting up with you guys and sure hope we can in the future! Having fun meeting up with great people is what’s its about, right? I’m going to add your blog to my list for sure – I always end up adding to my bucket list when I read about others travels – but that’s ok! Hope we catch up again!
