Living and Working in Texas!

Bill and I flew to Texas a little over a week ago. We’ve been staying on a friends property; Bill has finished up his first install and I’ve caught up on girlfriend time, food shopping, cooking and laundry.

Callie was so happy to see me, which made me happy! She purred and purred, and didn’t leave my lap whenever I was sitting.

One of the fun things we’ve done since we’ve been back is we went to the movies. We were all looking forward to seeing Bohemian Rhapsody and on a quiet, rainy afternoon, we all headed to Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. It was the coolest movie theater ever! First, they serve drinks – adult drinks, not just soda. Second, they serve food – real food, not just popcorn and candy. Third, they serve you in the theater, every two seats share a little table that has a menu and a card to stand up when you want something else, so no getting up mid-movie. Fourth, they have a VERY strict no talking or being on your phone policy. You get one warning, after that you get kicked out – even if they just see the glow of your phone. LOVED the whole experience!  LOVED LOVED the movie! I know it had mixed reviews, but Bill and I very much enjoyed it, as did the rest of our group of eight!

We were easily the largest group in the place

One day, Tracy, Cori and I headed out to do some Costco and Sam’s Club shopping.  Aside from just restocking (which was needed at my place desperately), we just enjoyed hanging out. Tracy and Cori had been together for a while, so I had some catching up to do!

Tracy and I went out another day, and on the way back we stopped for lunch at this really cool non-profit place that was highly recommended on TripAdvisor. Great food, great atmosphere and the best company!

We’ve been taking turns cooking, hanging out in the hot tub, and having smore’s over the huge campfires the guys have been starting. Good, ole’ fashion camping kind of stuff. We’ve had Italian chicken with penne pasta and Caesar salad, chicken and noodles, biscuits and gravy, eggs, bacon and hash browns, steaks with baked potatoes and corn on the cob, all kinds of yummy meals!

Mairead making yummy shots – don’t remember the name but they were good!

I’ve started a project in anticipation of my granddaughter’s arrival in March. Yes, we learned our daughter is having a baby girl! Way back when, I used to crochet. While in Michael’s Craft Store with Michelle (while in PA), I bought some yarn and a hook and started a baby blanket. I have to say, after a few short practice rows, it came back to me and it is coming along nicely. I’m quite proud of it!

One night we all headed out for Taco Tuesday’s at a local place, Hill County Hideout. $1 each for the most amazing delicious tacos! Drink prices were also good. I think everyone but me attempted to play pool, but mostly just goofed off.

Guess that’s all for today folks! I know I skipped last week and a couple of you reached out, asking if all was ok. Thanks for the texts, but I was just feeling lazy and since I’m caught up, I didn’t have a post ready to go. Sometimes I just need a break, otherwise you end up reading a boring update, kind of like this one! But, seriously, that is just sometimes how life is – boring, and that’s okay.

    1. Thanks! We are very excited! We are especially happy for our daughter, as she was hoping for a girl!

  1. Looks like a great time is being had by all! Congrats on the soon to be granddaughter. We are expecting our 3rd grandchild next month…first for our youngest son. Safe travels!

  2. Quiet times are nice now and then.
Just being with friends and hanging out.
And taking it easy enjoying the moment.

  3. Kelly, boring, never. I don’t care what you are writing about it is always interesting. I am jealous of this post. Sounds like you are having an amazing time and being with friends is the best. Frank really wants to see that movie as well. I love the place you saw it at. Looks great. Your baby blanket is looking great. Hope the weather is nice, winter came early in Maryland. We had to go to PA yesterday and they had gotten 7 inches of snow way to early for that. But I tell myself this is my last cold winter, I hope. Have a great week.

    1. Thanks Chris! We are having a great time with everyone! We loved the movie, the Rami totally becomes Freddie! I’m excited about the blanket – fell in love with the colors!

  4. Happy Birthday to Cori! Love that theater, we always enjoy it when we are in area with a theater near by for an extended period of time. We rarely get to see movies.

    1. It is an awesome theater for sure! We usually save special movies for in the theater – the rest wait for DVD or streaming

  5. Love the update and will be waiting to hear when your little princess arrives in March! She will love her warm blanket from grandma! Enjoy! Safe Travels and hugs!

  6. It’s never boring when you are with good friends! Glad you got to visit the hill country. We went that way on our trip from Alaska to FL and hope to spend some more time there in the future.

    Enjoy!

    1. Since this is the winter home of RV Solar Solutions – seems we will be here every year for at least a little while – we need to explore the area more!

  7. We, too, went to see BohemIan Rhapsody on TX (Lufkin).. Great casting–we totally enjoyed it. We couldn’t get over how cheap the tickets were–$7, with reclining theater seats that were nicer than ours in our RV! First time we ever encountered assigned seating in a theater, too. Always nice to catch up with friends–you all look great.

    1. I loved it so much I think I’m taking my son to see it tomorrow! Not sure I’ll get away with $7 here in PA. Wish our paths were going to cross but seems like they won’t this year 😞
