Chilling in TX

It’s hard to believe we have already moved on from Texas. Feels like we were only there a short time, when in fact we were there about 6 weeks!

Bill did several installs. I took care of some boring chores, such as shampooing our rugs (only the second time) and emptying out and cleaning the entire refrigerator, also only the second time, and replaced all the shelf liner. I know, exciting stuff, right?

We also celebrated my birthday! Another trip around the sun for me – a total of 54 times now! Bill made me my favorite cake – Grandma Murray’s Carrot Cake – YUMMY! Both my kids called – that always makes me smile!

Bill took me to dinner to the very good Baja BBQ in Canyon Lake.

We waited until the weekend, when Cori returned from work travel, for official celebrating!

Cori serving mozzarella sticks – and Lee very excited about them!
Bill and Lee very happy about Sue’s bean dip (Tracy made it)

Greg a.k.a. The Treager Master!
My yummy cake! Wait! What? How old am I?

Tracy, very generously, took me out to lunch for my birthday! We found a local place, Startz Cafe, on TripAdvisor. It had good reviews, and was not too far away in Canyon Lake. I enjoyed my burger and she loved her club sandwich. Thanks again Tracy!

All decorated for Christmas!

Dave & Mairead pulled out, heading westward. It was good to see them and get to know them a bit better. Sadly, we probably won’t be seeing them on the road again, as they are planning to sell their rig and settle down in NJ, as Mairead got a job in NYC. Since we will be back east next year, perhaps we will see them then!

Another thing I did was complete my granddaughters blanket. I even put a nice edge and border on it – I got fancy! I’ve got to say I am very proud of how it has come out and I can’t wait to see it in the nursery!

Full crib size!

Then, very suddenly, Tracy & Lee (Camper Chronicles) got a gate, so they packed up and left very quickly. They were gone within 3 hours of the call – on their way! That’s how it is with gate guarding, you wait and wait, then they call and you go. We are missing them already, even their new puppy, Jack, who decided he didn’t like me and barked at me all the time. It was really great to have so much time with them.

One very fun thing we did was go to an Escape Room. Greg, Cori, Bill and I headed into San Antonio, on probably the worst weather day we’ve had here. It was pouring down! There was so much water in the streets, that several times when driving down, Greg had a huge splash on the windshield from cars going the other way. Yea – that kind of rain.

Anyway, we arrived safely at Escape the Room, and after attempting to dodge the small rivers in the parking lot, we headed inside. Cori, the coupon/Groupon queen, found us an awesome deal for our group of four, so we didn’t have to share the room with strangers. Our “room” was called “The Countdown” and the object was to thwart a nuclear strike. Well after failing to save mankind, we learned that only 6% of groups solve all the clues and actually get bragging rights for protecting our planet. Either way, it was great fun, and the receptionist said we were very close. Not sure if she says that to all the groups, but it did make us feel just a little better.

Bill making friends with the Zombie! If we had a group of 12 – could have done the zombie room!
Boo! If only we had another 5 minutes!

While Bill was working on his final install, I got busy working on this blog.  I sure do hope you’ve noticed some of the changes. I’d hate to think I spent all that time figuring out how to make all those changes and no one noticed.

In case you missed any, I changed our header picture. It was taken at a rest area on our way to AZ from TX at the beginning of this year. For the first time, I included my car. I’ve added a link to RV Solar Solutions. I did the whole gift giving post on my own. I don’t mean to imply I hadn’t done any of these things before, but when you’ve only it once or twice and it’s been over a year (or two or more) since you’ve done it, clicking here and there to figure it out can be challenging. I’m quite proud that I figured it out and of the results.

We learned that our friends, Jodee & Bill (of On The Road Abode) were going to be nearby in San Antonio, so I reached out to see if they wanted to come hang out. I no sooner mentioned dinner and a campfire and they were on-board! Cori decided to smoke a brisket and I signed on for the sides. There were eight of us in total, since Cori & Greg’s friends, Brandy & Jason, had arrived for a visit. The weather was perfect for eating outside (with the help of the outdoor heater.) After having our fill of smoked brisket, packet potatoes, green beans and cornbread, we sat by the fire, letting it warm us. The apple tart and ice cream Jodee brought along was the perfect sweet treat!

.

With only a couple of days before we were heading out, we met up with long time blog reader, Julie, and her husband, Casey. Tracy & Lee had lunch with them before they left for their gate and they expressed interest in meeting us also, so we arranged it! We met about half way in the town of Dripping Springs, enjoying a great lunch of crepe’s at Crazy Crepe. We chatted for almost 3 hours and we finally had to say our goodbyes. Bill & I always love meeting up with blog readers and making new friends!

Interesting fact about Crazy Crepe – the Owners (who also work it) are deaf, so when ordering you have to point to the item on the enlarged laminated menu on the counter.

New friends!

    1. The escape room was fun – but probably would have been better if we had solved and finished it! I like the changes too – thanks!

  2. Kelly, love all the pictures. Looks like you had some great times. Your blanket came out great. I looks beautiful. Merry Christmas to you and Bill. Looking forward to seeing you guys next year, maybe more than once. 😀

  3. What a great time visiting everyone! The escape room looked fun, we are hoping to do one with Dino and Lisa when we are in Florida this winter. God help us!

    1. The escape room had been on my “want to do” list for awhile, glad we got to do it with friends! Can’t wait to hear about your experience! Where in FL will you be?

  4. Oh how fun! Escape room on my bucket list someday also. So where are you now? Heading east or west from Texas? If you are headed towards Az give a shout- I will make some more pudding shots like those at Rv Dreams Rally in Pahrump last April. Sold our toyhauler & bought a used Winnebago class A. Hope to catch you down the road again one of these days. Chloe

    1. Hey Chloe! Good to hear from you! Would love to take you up on the pudding shots (YUMMY!) but we are heading east! Going to spend time with my parents then head north to await the birth of our granddaughter! Happy Holidays!

    1. Thanks Eric! Our friends are working for an oil company that is drilling for oil – and their job is to check in and out everyone that enters the gate. So they were waiting to get a phone call that a gate opened up for them to go to, which means either someone was leaving an already open gate or a new gate was opening. Hope that helps!

  5. Never tried the escape room…sounds like fun! Merry Christmas and all the best in the New Year.

    1. The Escape Room was great fun! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! And enjoy that new grandbaby!

  6. Casey and I really enjoyed meeting you and Bill, those 3 hours just flew by. The baby blanket is lovely, your granddaughter will cherish it. I can’t wait to “meet” her in March. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to both of you! I hope our paths cross again in 2019.
