Lancaster Visit

It had been about 10 weeks since we parked in our seasonal site at Hickory Hollow Campground, so when we started packing up to head out for our “vacation,” it took a little longer than usual. Bill had been working hard, completing 8 installs since late March. My Nani responsibilities hardly need a vacation, but I did want to visit the beach and other people. The plan was to be gone about 4 1/2 weeks and stay in 4 different places. The first stop was our Elks home lodge in Ephrata to spend time with our son.

We arrived mid-afternoon, discovering that there was already someone else there. The lodge says they have three sites, we’ve always wondered what would happen if someone was parked in “our” spot. Well, that day we found out! One of the lodge trustees saw us pull in and walked down to help. He and Bill discussed options, and then he helped us park, providing another set of eyes to keep watch on the many trees. Honestly, it was not the easiest spot to get into, but I think I liked it better than the site we’ve parked in, where the other RV already was. Each time we visit, we notice the lodge has made some improvements to the area. This time, there was a lot more gravel being added, helping to keep the mud under control, as well as providing a more level surface.

The day after our arrival, we headed back out with just the car. Our friend was having a memorial of sorts for her Mom, who passed away last year, and we wanted to be there. It was a beautiful ride up to North Jersey. Years ago, their family owned a cabin on Crater Lake (not THE Crater Lake) and Linda had made a wooden plaque that she placed on the site where the cabin used to stand. Until it started raining, we enjoyed a quiet afternoon at the lake, enjoying nature and a picnic lunch.

Near our former home, in Exeter Township, PA, there was a Scenic River Trail, that we used to enjoy walking along. One day we decided to go walk it again. It was a perfect day, not too hot and low humidity. We reminisced about our lives in that area as we walked along, then headed back to Lancaster.

Another day, Bill and Billy decided to do one of Billy’s favorite hikes, also near our former home. It worked out perfect, as I had a hair appointment with my favorite stylist, Jamie. I dropped them off at the trailhead with plenty of snacks and water.

I had made the decision a while back to stop dyeing my hair. I had decided that once before, with terrible results, which caused me to abandon the idea. This time, professional help was desired to increase the chances of actually going through with it. Sorry guys, this may be boring to you, but I know you ladies will understand. I have been using a medium chocolate brown for years. It is a warm color, as the name implies, and when it hasn’t been done in too long, it looks very brassy when it starts to fade. That, coupled with grey roots made for a terrible look. After consulting with Jamie, I sat in her chair and said “do what you have to do” and she did. What she did first to add a lot of highlights. I’ve never had so many! Next, she added a toner to literally tone down the brassiness. I was so nervous but trusted her implicitly. The results were amazing! I may need a touch-up before heading south but we shall see. I also purchased a blue brass remover shampoo and conditioner to use once per week until it has grown out. I’m trying hard to be very brave, but I’ll admit it is not easy.

Bill reached out to a couple of his friends while in the neighborhood. One morning, we stopped by Uncle Jack’s Corner for a delish lunch! If you are ever in the Birdsboro, PA area, stop in and tell him Bill sent you!

We enjoyed a wonderful evening with Ken & Nancy at the local Applebees. It was nice catching up with them!

A major project was tackled before we lifted our jacks with New Jersey as our destination. The three of us washed and waxed the rig. It was so overdue! It took us 2 1/2 days, but the results were worth every minute! We celebrated with a campfire and jerk chicken wings! YUMMY!

Jerk Chicken wings – delish!

Our time in Lancaster was awesome as always!

  1. I know you want to go natural, but she did an AMAZING job! I love it!! The clean rig shines through the pictures! The jerk chicken is making me hungry! Have fun in NJ!

    1. Thanks! I think I’m more grey than she added highlights but it will be less noticeable now when it grows in

  2. Love your hair. I totally understand about the hair color. I wish I didn’t have to do mi e so much. The rig looks fantastic. Great job. We love Lancaster. Glad you are having a good time with your son and friends.

    1. Thanks Chris! I think she may have underestimated the amount of grey but it will still blend better.

    1. Thanks! It sure does look pretty! We always have a great time in Lancaster!

  3. Ugh, you just reminded me how badly we need to wash and wax our rig. It just has not been a priority lately with everything we have going on. Do you guys hire out?!?!

    1. Nope – did it ourselves! Just did it when we had an extra set of hands (our son) to lighten the burden!

  4. Looks like more good times with Billy – I’m sure he had a great time cleaning and waxing 🙂 Your hair looks great. When I decided to go gray (which is still taking forever) I had lots of ash blonde highlights added and it made the transition painless. Haven’t colored it in five years. You’re going to love it!!

    1. I’m not sure if he had a great time but we got it done! Thanks about my hair – I’m trying – we shall see how it goes!

  5. Hi guys!! So now that Diane and I are in a 5th wheel and not the Class A any longer we are tempted to do the second car thing and was wondering if it were not for your Solar Installs if you would still opt to have the second car?

    1. Hi Dave! We have had my car with us from the beginning. The only time we left it behind for a year in 2016 when we went to AK. I don’t mind driving separately on drive days and we love having it for exploring when we arrive at our locations. Having it has kept a lot of miles off our truck. It is extra handy now, especially when Bill is working on an install, as I would be stuck without it, as he keeps his tools, etc in the truck. I’m planning a post for our 5 year roadaversary for end of August/beginning of September – be on the look-out, as I’m sure that will be one of the topics!

Your hair looks great, the rig looks great, and I love you both!!
