When planning our summer, one of the places we decided we wanted to visit was Country Oaks Campground. You may remember, Bill and I worked there for the summer 2017 season, and fell in love with the place and the people. You can read my Thoughts on Seasonal Camping post, which talks about our experience.
The reservation for our stay was confirmed back in March. I had reached out early, knowing some weekends fill up quicker than others. After speaking to Lynn, and sending messages to Tina and Monique, we were even more excited about our visit.
We arrived on a Monday, and after checking in, we quickly realized we booked the wrong site. Bob came by and moved us to a much easier to get into site. Whew!
After setting up, we walked over to see Dan. Tina and Monique were still at work and we sent Tina a teaser video of us in front of her 5th wheel.
Jersey is not done right without seeing my brother and his family; he lives in the same town we grew up in, Cliffwood Beach. The small town on the shore of the Raritan Bay will always be “home” to both Bill and I.
Caroline and I took a quick ride to the grocery store for a few supplies and when we got back, Jay cooked us a yummy lunch. After eating, we all took a walk. We started on the sea wall then walked on the road back, sharing memories along the way! Cheesecake was served to everyone when we returned! Thanks again Jay, Caroline, Jaime, and Nick for a great day!
Back at Country Oaks, we enjoyed the pool, which was as awesome as we remembered. We enjoyed visiting with campers as we took walks. I lost count of how many times we were asked if we were coming back to work! I guess it’s nice to be missed and know people want you to return!
Cooking, eating, drinking and laughing again with Tina, Monique, and Dan was so fun! We sure did miss them!
Another highlight of our time down the shore was the beach! It was so nice that the weather cooperated and we got to spend a few days sitting in the sand and walking the boards. Nothing soothes the soul like the smell of salt air and sound of crashing waves!
Thirteen days at County Oaks flew by and we were way too soon lifting our jacks and heading about an hour north to stay with Bill’s brother. Bill had gone up there one afternoon to trim some trees so we could get into our spot without any damage to our newly washed and waxed paint.
While there, John held his annual picnic. It was so awesome to see friends and family! It was fun showing off our home to those who hadn’t seen it before. What a fun day!
Bill stayed on a few days longer than I did, helping John with a couple of projects, but I took my car and drove up into North Jersey to my friend Linda’s. The one who just bought herself a new-to-her 5th Wheel/truck combo. In a separate post, I’ll tell you about our girls weekend maiden voyage!
Bill drove our home back to Hickory Hollow with Callie in plenty of time for his scheduled install. I caught up with him later in the week.

You have a wonderful ‘hometown’ and beach.
Roofing is back breaking work, Bill did good helping his brother with that task. Anxious to hear what you were up to while they toiled 🙂
Thanks Jeff! We loved growing up where we did – that’s why being on the water is so important to us! That roof was the first in many years, last one was back in 1997 – a much smaller one on a two story playhouse he built our kids!
Wonderful to hear your enthusiasm for your home digs!! Looks like more fun visits. That looks like a great pool. But I think the nice surf was very chilly :-))
NJ will always be home! The pool at Country Oaks is aweome! The water was actually very nice!
Looks like you guys have a great time 😎
We always love our time in NJ!
