It’s hard to believe that a year has gone by and my amazing granddaughter has turned one year old! I celebrated with a two-week visit, which culminated in a party, held at the home of my daughter’s in-laws. Bill flew up a week after me, in plenty of time for the party. My niece Jaime drove out from NJ, stopping to pick up Billy on her way.

Michelle and I went over to do a bit of decorating the day before the party. She had purchased some balloons and Woodland Animal themed paper products – so cute! The cake was ordered and picked up the day before.

Bill and I got her a couple of books, an outfit and a toy. Her “big” present was a SnapFish book, which I filled with pictures of her first year, including a few of Michelle when she was pregnant. I absolutely loved it! I totally recommend using SnapFish if you want to make a photo book.

I’ve got to say – I do love technology! We were able to use FaceBook messenger to video chat with my parents so they could watch Freya destroy her “smash cake” and open her presents, which was so fun!

Later, after the party, we had a smaller celebration for Billy’s 29th birthday! It doesn’t seem possible to me that my youngest is 29!

Billy and Jaime left the following morning after breakfast. It got quiet after that and Bill and I enjoyed an afternoon and evening of babysitting while Michelle and Derek headed to Pittsburgh for some couple time.

The following day Michelle and I took Freya for her 1-year check-up, complete with not one, or two, but three vaccines! Poor baby! She did very well, better than her mother and I, and received a clean bill of health from her doctor. Can’t ask for more than that!

Unfortunately, that’s where the good news of the day stopped. Upon returning home to Michelle’s, we learned some devesating news. More on that in my next post.
