I can hardly believe we have been here, at our summer home at Hickory Hollow Campground near our daughter, for 10 weeks already! I wish I had a lot of fun and interesting things to tell you, but honestly, it’s been fairly boring here. I’m choosing to look at that as a good thing, as it means everyone I love and care about is healthy and safe. Nothing urgent or scary going on here.
After the travel and tragedy of the first quarter of 2020, we were happy to just sit here and have nothing going on. I tend to be pretty good at handling emergencies, but when we arrived here and started to relax, the stresses of the first quarter of 2020 caused some sadness to emerge. While there were things to do, as there always is in an RV and with the solar business, there was also a lot of downtimes to let the events of the previous 3 months sink in. This was especially evident in the first two weeks, as we were completely isolating and not seeing our daughter and granddaughter.
Looking back, it was probably a good time to just sit with all that had happened. We did get some chores done, watched a bunch of TV, although we did adhere to the no TV before dinner rule. We caught up on blog reading, walked a bunch and did more cooking than usual. The campground came alive more slowly than usual this year, as transient campers weren’t allowed in before May 1.
We were happy when “opening day” for transients officially happened. Until that day (May 1st), we were worried we wouldn’t be able to welcome our clients and do their installs. We had established a few guidelines that we would be following, in light of COVID19, that we sent to all upcoming clients, via email. Extra measures we instiuted included we would wear masks anytime we would be inside their RV; we’d prefer, if possible, that they step outside when Bill needed to be inside; Bill would be santizing any space he touched prior to and after inside their RV; etc. The last thing we want would be to get anyone sick, or get sick ourselves.
The day finally came, two weeks after our arrival, that we felt safe seeing our daughter and granddaughter – we were so excited! Like little kids! We woke that morning and were ready to go so much earlier than we had done ANYTHING in the two weeks prior. Freya took a minute when we first arrived, but very quickly we were hugging and loving on her! How many hugs and kisses can one little girl get? I lost count!
Since that day, we’ve been alternating between time here at the campground and Michelle’s. We are still using curbside pickup from Walmart and Giant Eagle. We’ve had take-out pizza.
Bill has completed his first two installs. Billy was here for those weeks and helped his father out with the panels and pulling wire like I usually do. I think they both enjoyed the time together.
So, what will the summer hold for us? Time will tell for sure, but we are supposed to be spending the month of July in NJ. We will need to be dealing with our storage container, which currently resides on Bill’s brother’s property. We have made an arrangement with the campground owners to move it out here, which is awesome, but we need to go through it and sort out stuff we really don’t want and get the rest ready to move. When we loaded it, we never expected to move it with stuff in it. With John’s passing away, and our reluctance to get rid of our saved possessions, a new home for our stuff was needed. You can read all about our initial set-up here.
We have been doing a lot of walking, heading one day to nearby Ohiopyle State Park. We’ve hiked there before, loving the wide stroller-friendly path. The local restaurants were open for take-out and the ice cream store we prefer was fully stocked with delicious options.
I posted on Facebook about this, but something happened while we were in Ohiopyle. Michelle and I had to use the ladies’ room after our hike. The restrooms (individual rooms that are unisex) had a line-up in a room that is usually used for an information booth. Maybe 15-20 people. Most people were wearing masks, but all were staying 6 feet apart, except this one young guy. Somehow he got in line in-between Michelle and I. He was not wearing a mask and was also standing very close to her. I could tell she was uncomfortable and wasn’t sure how to handle it. So after a few minutes, I finally couldn’t stand it and I spoke up, asking him (very politely) to move away from her. I said she was my daughter and was pregnant and especially since he wasn’t wearing a mask, could he please at least stay at least 6 feet from her. He looked at me like I was crazy, but complied. The whole room did turn and look and the lady behind me whispered (loudly) “good for you!” Don’t mess with Momma Bear!
Spending time with Freya has been the highlight of our time here. She is now 15 months old, walking all over the place and getting picky about what she eats. Typical toddler. She is amazing and I love being her Nani. I love watching her with her Pop, she will stand and put her arms up to be picked up and giggles when he puts her up on his shoulders. Her Momma is about 15 weeks pregnant now, finally relaxing in the fact that this pregnancy is ok. She is still very tired, but most of the nausea has passed. We are excitedly waiting for her to be able to go for her ultrasound to learn if Baby S is a boy or girl.
So, that’s all from us! Hope all is well with you and yours, that everyone is safe and healthy! Til next time…

Grand-girls are great so much love to share … Thanks for letting us know you are safe and enjoying family when you can.
Thanks Jeff! Hope all is well with you and yours!
I’m so glad things have calmed for you! It sure has been a difficult year and then the virus doesn’t help. We are looking forward to some time in upper Michigan with each of our children and their families.
Take care and I’m anxiously waiting for baby updates from you! Hugs
Thanks Dawn! Glad you will be with family!
Glad that you got the down time you needed to start the healing. Sometimes we don’t realize we need it until time passes. The goose family is so cute 🙂 Time with the grands is the very best. Love seeing Bill and Freya enjoying their time together. Lovely to see all your greenery, hopefully the humidity won’t get too bad this year. Looks like our summer will be a hot one here in Arizona. Oh how we miss being on the road. Good to know you and Bill are safe.
Thanks Jodee! Are you and Bill not traveling at all anymore, or just staying put during the virus?
