NJ – Socially Distant

Country Oaks (our summer 2017 employer) was our next stop. Beach time was on the agenda!

We were assigned a site in the new “field” section of the campground, which mean full sun all the time. The perk was it was an easy to get into pull-through verses the back-in we stayed in last year that Bob (the owner) removed a fence post for us to get into.

Once we were set-up, we headed out for a walk to see if anyone was out and about. We really didn’t expect to see anyone, as it was a Monday and most people are only there on weekends. Surprisingly, there were a few people there, and while it was awesome to say hello and enjoy chit-chat, we were careful – no hugging!

Our usual beach, Corson Inlet State Park, was as it always is, quiet and nobody nearby. This was true each of the perfect times we made it there. The boardwalk, which we walked only once, had a lot fewer people than we usually find there. We didn’t go at night at all, expecting it would have been more crowded. We found it fairly easy to avoid being near anyone and liked that the breezes coming off the ocean kept the air moving constantly.

There was a couple of hours here and there that it didn’t make sense to drive to the beach, so we enjoyed some time at the pool instead! LOVE this pool!

While I was sad my niece couldn’t make it, we had a great visit with my brother and sister-in-law. We sat outside and enjoyed a beautiful afternoon. Jay cooked perfect London Broil and shrimp on the grill.

We decided one day after being at the beach that we wanted to stop for dinner at one of our fav places, Mikes Seafood. We had driven by several times and saw they had their outdoor tables spread apart and everyone (except those eating) were wearing masks. I’m happy to report we really enjoyed our dinner! Bill had fried flounder and I had their clam strips – YUMMY!

Twelve days at a place sure can go fast and before we knew it, it was time to move on. We loved seeing the Country Oaks crowd, catching up with Tina, Mo, Dan, Tom, Paula, Andrew, Aaron, Justin, Leslie, and Hannah. Sorry to those we missed! We’d like to give a huge shout-out to Bob and Lynn – thanks for another awesome stay! Play time was over, and it was time for work! More about that next time!

  1. Nice almost private beach … always a perk when you can get it, Bill looks like he’s become one with his chair just relax’n.
Clam strips at Mike’s looks good, but I’ll take the BBQ shrimp every time!

    1. We LOVE that beach – never crowded. Bill does get comfy with his chair! Mikes clam strips are delish – but bbq shrimp would work also!

    1. Wish we could be here the whole summer – but Freya is too far away! It’s great to go when we can!

  2. Hi, JimnToni here, full timers ! Just joined you guys, after seeing your bed slide repair. I’ll be doing the same next week. Great article. Just wondering if you guys workamp or volunteer ? We usually do 2 four month gigs a year, then have an adventure for the other 4 months. Were happy so far, but the virus has sure scored up our schedule by closing facilities. Hopefully next year will be better. Take care and have safe, happy travels

    1. Hello! Thanks for joining! Glad you liked our post about the bedroom slide repair – it remains one of our most popular. Good luck with your repair – let us know how it goes!
We have done workamping in the past (2 campground gigs and 2 peak seasons at Amazon in KY) but Bill installs solar on RV’s now, so we haven’t done any more Workamping, for now. In the future I may look for something solo, time will tell.
Thanks again for following along! Stay safe!

  3. Looks like you have your own beach! Glad to see you are having such a good time. Would love to have some good seafood, too.

    1. I like to think of it as our private beach, but it’s as close as we can get!
