Work and Friends in TN

With the GPS set for Douglas Dam Headwater Campground, we left the beautiful location in Tryon, NC. Pat was a wonderful host, and we wish him many safe and happy travels with his new solar system!

Our next stop was heading the wrong way a bit. We were originally supposed to attend the final RV-Dreams Educational Rally, but we ultimately decided something in our schedule had to give, and with some sadness, we decided it needed to be the rally. We’ve attended a total of 6 RV-Dreams rallies, 2 educational ones, 2 boondocking ones, and 2 reunion ones. We loved every minute of them all which is why we booked our spot at their final one, but sometimes other things took priority timewise, and thankfully Howard and Linda understood.

We had an install on the calendar for the week before the rally and we had to honor that, so we made the 125 mile trip and got set-up next to our client, who had already arrived.

The campground was very nice, much like a COE (Corp of Engineer) park, with amazing views of the Douglas Lake and Dam.

The following morning we set right to work. I reached out to our friends Chris and Frank to let them know we had arrived. They would be going to the rally and we wanted to meet up with them before it started. I also reached out to Howard and Linda to see if they would have time to see us before the rally started. Plans were made for later in the week.

Chris and Frank came over and we enjoyed a yummy dinner of appetizers, which I love! Guacamole, queso, sausage stuffed mushrooms – YUUMY! We finished the night with a campfire and smores! It was so much fun catching up with them and hearing about their travels for a change! They had been full-time RVers for just over a year and they are loving life!

Bill and I, along with Chris and Frank, up at the tiny house Howard and Linda rented for their stay during the rally. They have sold their Class C and are currently RV-less. We then found our way to Five Oaks Farm Kitchen, where we enjoyed a lovely dinner. The food was very good, all homemade and delicious! Linda and Howard, while excited for the rally, were also experiencing some sadness, which was completely understandable.

Bill and I will always be grateful to Howard and Linda for their blog RV Dreams, as it showed us that we would be able to live this crazy full-time RV lifestyle. They were instrumental in introducing us to our “tribe,” the group of people we remain close to to this day. Thank you Howard and Linda – from the bottom of our hearts! We wish you well in your next phase of life!

Our install complete, we lifted our jacks and headed almost exactly back the way we came, with another client’s home in front of us. For the second time in as many weeks, we were staying at a clients home. This time it wasn’t for an install, but instead just for a consult. This client had scheduled to get solar installed on his truck camper, and since this was a first for Bill, he decided it was important to see the RV in person to ensure all components would fit. Getting measurements is important, but nothing beats putting your eyes on a project.

Scott and Judy were ready for us when we arrived and helped guide Bill as he backed into their driveway. It was a little tricky due to some landscaping and a mailbox, but he got it done, as he always does. Bill went right to “work” while Scott showed him his truck camper. Once all decisions were made and notes written, Scott and Judy invited us to join them for a fire at their backyard firepit. It was a wonderful evening talking about RV’ing. Thanks guys for your hospitality!

  1. It was so great seeing you both in Tennessee. We loved the rally and loved Howard and Linda. We have wanted to do their rally ever since I started ready your blog. Thank you again for everything. We owe so much to you and Bill.

    1. I’m so happy you got to finally go to a rally. We may have encouraged and given some advice here and there but ultimately you did it!

  2. Yes it is bittersweet to know Howard and Linda will have no more rallies. They are certainly a big part of how we got where we are and many of the new friends we’ve made on the road! Love that first pic, what a peaceful spot. You’re definitely keeping busy, glad you’re also having fun times as well.
