3 Months Went By In TX

How is it possible that 3 months in TX has come and gone? Read along and find out what was going on!

We arrived at the Center for Mental Wellness the second week of January. There were installs lined up; Bill got the first two of the year completed, but unfortunately, the first two in February were canceled due to not being able to get supplies, which is really upsetting. It cuts into our income and that obviously isn’t good. Greg did a great job finding quality alternative components but not all clients were interested in the alternate components and opted instead to wait for the original inverters to become available – and we have no idea when that will be. They (companies Greg buys components from) keep us “on the hook” by continually moving the date 6 week/2 months down the road, over and over and over. It’s been quite frustrating, to say the least.

While not as bad as last year, we did have a few frozen mornings

Things sometimes work out the way they are supposed to though because on February 3 we got a call from the Exmore VA sheriff’s department. The name of that town may sound familiar as we’ve visited there a few times in the past couple of years. It’s where Bill’s Uncle Ken lived. The sheriff called to tell us that Uncle Ken had passed away. Bill (along with his sister Maretta) are next of kin.

I booked us flights to Richmond VA; once there we rented a car and picked up Maretta. We stopped at a Mission BBQ en route for dinner and arrived at the Exmore VA Hampton Inn after dark. We spent the next few days taking care of arrangements and cleaning up the house a bit. About 10 days later, we returned to continue cleaning up the house and also the garage. More work is still needed but more on that next time.

Tracy & Lee arrived in mid-January and were there for several weeks. The six of us made the best of our free time. I say it that way because there was a lot going on – there were a few installs, Cori & Greg flew to PA to see his family, Cori was working full-time at her job, and Tracy was also working full-time. Greg and Lee are famous for puttering around to keep busy. I do help Bill with the first day or two of an install but after that I guess I fall into the “puttering around” category.

Tracy had a day with a late start so she and I headed out for one of our favorite things – pedicures! I hadn’t had one in way too long! We also spent a longer than usual lunch break and went for haircuts and lunch at Panda Express. YUM! Yet another day we ran out to Kohls and JCP for some wardrobe updating.

While checking out Facebook one afternoon, I noticed that friends of ours, Brian & Sue, were close by in Bastrop. I reached out to see if we could schedule a lunch date somewhere half-way’ish. Since they hadn’t ever visited Gruene, they asked if we could meet them there and of course, we said YES! We enjoyed lunch at The Gristmill and walked around town, making a few purchases. We were so busy visiting and catching up that we forgot a pic – that is until a bell went off in Bill’s head and I quickly called Sue and said “Don’t drive off, we are catching up with you to get a pic!” I’m so glad I did!

Lee joined Bill and me one afternoon while we ran errands, stopping for lunch at Linn’s Chinese Buffet. Another yum! I know the guys also took off for Lowe’s or Home Depot several times. Trace & Lee also spent a day in Lowes, picking out a new residential refrigerator to replace their 3-way RV one. Their main complaint was ice cream doesn’t freeze – and they were both tired of not having ice cream. Well, they can fit lots of ice cream and other goodies now! You can check out Tracy’s post about it here.

David and Sharon came and hung out with us for a few days! We hadn’t seen them since the summer of 2018 in CO. The famous Luckenbach was our destination on one warm sunny Sunday. Another afternoon, we strolled through Gruene and enjoyed a delicious lunch at Gristmill.

As you can tell – there was lots of eating going on

Chris and Frank were passing through the area on their way west and stopped by to hang out. It was great seeing them and introducing them to Cori & Greg. Tripp made a new friend in Carly too!

We took a trip to PA for Freya’s third birthday – can you believe it? Time flies faster for grandchildren than it ever did for our kids.

Thanks to Tracy, Lee, and Greg for taking such good care of Callie while we were away!

Cori made reservations for us one night to escape from the “Human Trials” room at Panic Room in San Antonio. We got out using only one clue and with 2 minutes to spare! The success rate of this room, which has a difficulty score of 75%, is 29%.

Bill completed an install on Kirk & Sabrina’s Airstream and we celebrated by spending the day having lunch at Redbud Cafe and a relaxing afternoon at Real Ale Brewing in Blanco. Thanks for a wonderful day!

Tracy and Lee had visited the LBJ Presidential Library in Austin and were impressed, so we decided to check it out. We enjoyed our day learning about LBJ and Lady Bird. You can read Tracys impressions of it here.

As our time in TX was winding down, we realized friends Red & Pam were near enough by that we could meet them halfway for a lunch meet-up. We enjoyed a delicious Mexican lunch in Kerrville.

Last but not even close to least, we finally got out for dinner with Cori & Greg at the new Cajun restaurant in Canyon Lake, Roberts By The Lake. It was very good, I’m sure we will return next year!

By the time you are reading this we have moved on and are in VA settling Uncle Ken’s estate.

We are happy you continue to follow along with us! Thanks for reading!

Please take a minute to say hello in the comments below. Let us know how you are and what your summer plans are!

  1. Love reading about your adventures. Y’all were a tremendous help with the repair of our Landmark’s bedroom slide floor three years ago. It’s held up well, through trips all over the country. However, we’ve decided it’s time to settle down so we care building a house in North Myrtle Beach, SC. We’ll be putting the Landmark up for sale later this summer. Safe travels. BTW, we’re temporarily in Northern Virginia, staying with one of our sons until the house is finished.

    1. Thanks Gus for checking in! So happy our post helped you out! Good luck in your newest adventure!

  2. Still love reading about your adventures. So glad we got to see you and Bill twice over the winter. Also glad we finally got to meet Cori and Greg and of course Tripp.

    1. We were so excited you guys got to stop by and hang out! Can’t wait to see all your pics this summer! Keep in touch!

  3. There you are 🙂 Looks like more fun with good friends, and some important family business taken care of. I keep saying we have to see some of the presidential libraries and we haven’t been to one yet! That Cajun food looks amazing!

    1. We always have a great time with our tribe in TX. The family business is still in process – hopefully winding down now. We’ve only been to two other libraries and all have been impressive! Hope we can cross paths again one of these days!

  4. Always a great time to meet up with you two! Next time maybe we can do more than a lunch 😘

    1. I’m so glad we all found time to meet-up – and yes – next time more than lunch would be great!

  5. Nothing like seeing good friends having a great time! Hope to see you guys this year when you are in Florida….

    1. We will have to see how timing works out but it is our plan to stop like we did last year! Looking forward to it!

  6. That is the perfect sign for Greg! So cool that you were able to meet up with Red and Pam as well as Dave and Sharon. Both very cool and fun couples!

  7. Sorry to hear of the death of your uncle. There was a time when we went to weddings and baby showers, now there are more funerals. Still it looks like a great gathering was enjoyed by all.

    1. Thanks Jeff. Uncle Ken will be missed. It is sad now that we don’t gather with extended family anymore. We’ve talked about how there used to be many more gatherings for Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day picnics, etc. Not as much anymore. It’s sad – but families don’t always live near one another anymore. People are all over the place. It’s a good and bad thing at the same time.

    1. Thanks Mark! It sure does sound like we were busy in TX, doesn’t it? What’s weird is while we did all the things I talked about, day to day didn’t seem that busy at the time. I guess it’s the power of putting out the Readers Digest version. Ha!
