Business and Pleasure in TX

For those who haven’t read it yet, I’ve already posted about our new business RV Energy Solutions. When we arrived in TX, my number one priority was getting the new business up and running.

Getting everything set up took a lot of time. I am not tech savvy at all, so starting a new website from scratch was not initially fun. I had signed myself up for a month of help through BlueHost and I have to say they were fantastic! They try to keep each call to half an hour, which makes getting through to to a live agent much easier. Some of you may be asking “Don’t you already have this blog? Didn’t you already create a website?” and that’s a totally fair question. Back when I started this blog, my daughter helped me a lot, now I just type up posts, upload pics and hit “publish.” It’s pretty easy. Initial set-up – not so much.

Sitting around a fire is always makes for a relaxing evening.

Once I had the site (mostly) working, Greg started forwarding inquires to our site, which worked great. It became a little bit of a pain in the butt later when RV Solar Solutions calendar wasn’t updated. I didn’t want to keep bothering Cori or Greg about it, so I eventually figured out how to just have the whole site forward. This was not without problems; some still exist and there isn’t much to be done about it, nothing I can figure out anyway. Seems when someone types out rvsolarsolutions.com, or if there is a link that is supposed to open that home page – it will open our site; however, when the link is to their contact page, or locations/dates page, there is a “this page can’t be found” message that displays. If you look closer, our tab bar is at the top, but if the tabs aren’t noticed and they don’t click on one of them, I am sure they are just closing the page. If anyone has any ideas, I’m listening. Thanks!

Anyway, I have gotten way ahead of myself. This post is supposed to be about our time in TX. In-between installs and working on the website, we did do some fun things.

Our friends and third time clients – first official RV Energy Solutions clients – Jimmy & Christine!

Spring Branch RV Park, where Bill does the installs in TX, has a cat that could be our Callie’s twin. Do you know which one is which?

I traveled by myself to PA for Freya’s 5th birthday – can you believe she is already 5?! She wanted a unicorn cake, so that’s what she got!

We had high expectations about the eclipse, but were ultimately disappointed on April 8. We were in the path of totality, but sadly, there were lots of clouds and we didn’t see much. No ring of fire for us. It did get dark, which was cool.

Can barely see the crescent through the clouds.
Another attempt – pics are totally disappointing.
It was pretty cool when the lights came on.
A little darker.
This one was taken during the totality, we couldn’t see the ring at all. We were all disappointed. It was still an interesting experience, especially since we could feel the temps drop too!

Greg’s niece plays guitar in a band called Chalk Talk, and we drove up to Austin one evening to hear her play. It’s an all girl bad, somewhat reminiscent of the GoGo’s or the Bangles, and they were very good. We wish them continued success!

There are lots of great venues, with a variety of different music, food, and beverages.

We also went out a few times to breweries and distilleries. YUM!

Gumbo tasting – some were delish – others not so much!
Bill lucked out – a tour was starting just as we arrived!

A visit to TX wouldn’t be complete without at least one evening at Gruene Hall.

Bill spent a few afternoons helping Greg build a deck on the side of their house. The two of them were exhausted after digging post holes, making cement, and putting beams in place.

This was when they were just getting started. You can see more of it in the eclipse pics above.

Below are pics we took while on a walk along the Guadalupe River South Trail near Canyon Lake.

This shows how low the river is – the whole area to the left of the water is usually under water. It’s usually covering the bottom steps on the right.

Tripp was always a willing and available walking companion.

He was always way out front at the beginning of our walks, but I’d have to use lots of encouragement to get him home without picking him up!

Cori, as you may remember from last year, has taken up cookie making as a hobby. She made the cutest dinosaur and name/initial cookies for the girls for me to take when we left. Freya and Arwen loved them!

Aren’t they the cutest? They taste good too!

We knew it was getting time to leave when we saw this guy at the bottom of our stairs.

Last thing before we headed out was a visit from Big Rig Wash. We’ve used them before to wash and wax our RV. This husband and wife team, Skylar and Alda, do a fantastic job at reasonable prices. Check them out if you are ever in the Canyon Lake TX area!

They bring their own demineralized water so no water spots!
10 years full-time and she still shines up like a new penny!

I especially like when they dress the tires!

Thank you Skylar and Alda for another terrific job!

We lifted our jacks and headed out with a new destination in our GPS – Garner State Park! My BFF Linda and her partner, our friend Rick, were volunteering there and we booked a week long visit – tune in next time to read all about it!
