Waves (OBX) *Ocean Waves Campground * April – May 2015

I cannot say enough good things about Ocean Waves Campground!  We LOVED it there and will be back I’m sure of it!

One of the best things about this place is it’s location.  Right across the dunes from the great Atlantic Ocean!  We fell asleep and woke up every day of our month long stay to the sound of the pounding waves!  Now, to be fair, we were parked 2nd to the closest to the dunes, and you might not be able to hear that if parked closer to the street.

This campground was very clean.  I didn’t use the restrooms, but I did peak in and they were immaculate!  They have a very nice pool, which we didn’t use b/c it was still pre-season, but they were getting it ready and it looked very nice.  They offer a small laundry room, which was also clean, but when I went to use it, all machines were in use, so I went up the street.  No big deal!

Something else I want to mention is you cannot have fires at your site.  That is a Hatteras National Seashore rule, not the campground rule.  You can, however, have a fire below the high tide line on the beach – can’t get better than that!

This place is family owned and operated and they live on-site, 3 generations!  They were very accommodating, at first we had 4 rigs arrive the same day, then another came about a week and a half later, then another week later 2 more rigs joined us.  They did their best to have us all next to one another.  Only one rig had to be a bit down the street b/c they were too large for the closer available site.  We had an issue with our picnic table and the son of the owner was at our site fixing it in less than a half hour.

They do have more activities in the summer months, but while we were there, they made a Mother’s Day breakfast of fresh eggs, pancakes, french toast and waffles, even BACON and SAUSAGE!  Of course, coffee and OJ to drink!  And, there was plenty and it was all very good!

We had an excellent Verizon signal here.  They have wifi for free, and while it wasn’t the fastest, it was consistent and good.  They do not have cable, but we didn’t miss it, just watched already downloaded things.

We totally call this place a “Like ‘Em” or maybe even a “Love ‘Em”!   It can be your OBX headquarters.
