Family and Friend Visits

We’ve been very lucky this past year to have spent a great deal of time with friends. While thinking about this post, I replayed the year and thought – wow! Almost all of this past year was with friends or visiting family. How lucky are we?

Our stay in Clearwater, as always, was primarily to visit my parents, and we spent a good chunk of time with them. Having dinner, watching movies, and just spending time together.

Early in our stay, we had Patty & Mark drive up to have dinner with us – which was so sweet of them to do!

Gene & Eileen came to see us a couple of weeks later. We originally met them at the 2014 Spring RV Dreams Rally in Tennessee, and have spent lots of time with them since. Most recently, we saw them in Colorado, along with David & Sharon and Jo & Ben. Sadly, they have since given up their travels, for now at least, to care for Gene’s 90+ year old Mom. They’ve settled down in a mobile home park and put their Winnebago motorhome up for sale. If anyone is in the market, let me know!

Our next visitors were Jerry & Linda, who we first met in Alaska at Renfros. They were living in Alaska at the time, and came and spent a week as our neighbors. We spent some time getting to know them, and they started following this blog. We later met up with them again at Amazon in the fall of 2017. When they saw we were not too far away, Jerry reached out and said “Hey! We need to get together!” and we did!

Our friends, James & Cindy, drive down from Cedar Key to spend an afternoon with us. They brought their bikes and we rode one of our favorite trails to Safety Harbor. It was such a nice day that when it was time for a lunch break, we sat outside at Bar Fly Saltwater Grill.

.

I had a few others reach out and want to get together, but, sadly, the timing just didn’t work out. Bill was doing installs and was also fighting a nasty cold – which thankfully I didn’t get! (Poor David wasn’t so lucky!) I feel bad when that happens, and I hope we can make a visit happen next time when are nearby each other.

We did finally find a convenient time to meet up with Bill’s cousin, Jerry, and his wife, Pat. Neither of them remember meeting in person before, although they’ve been friends on Facebook for awhile now. Jerry is Bill’s father’s first cousin, which makes Bill and Jerry first cousins once removed.

We drove over to their house and arrived just-on-time at 1 o’clock. Jerry owns Florida Statuary and Mold and we didn’t need to double check the house number when we pulled up. There were all types of assorted concrete creations throughout the yard.

We spent a couple of hours exchanging family stories. At some point someone asked if anyone was hungry, and next thing you knew we were off to one of their favorite local eateries, Sea Hag. We all opted for the grouper – and it was delish!

Back at the house, Pat served us a wonderful dessert of Angel-food cake with strawberries and whip cream! Yummy!

Thanks again, Jerry & Pat, for a wonderful afternoon!

One afternoon, on National Holocaust Remembrance Day, my Mom and I visited the St Pete Holocaust Museum. It was pretty crowded, and the mood was somber as we weaved our way around, reading the displays. The largest exhibit was an actual box car, brought over from Germany.

Bill stayed home and packed up, while my Mom, Dad and I visited my sister and Rodney again. We enjoyed lunch at Sweet Tomatoes.

Talk about a busy few weeks!

Before we knew it, it was time for moving on – catch up with you next time!

  1. Norm Abram (This Old House) said in one episode “Clamps are like friends – you can never have too many”. He was setting clamps on the show, but bet thinking of you when it comes to friends and staying in touch. So much fun following your travels and who will turn up next 🙂

  2. Kelly, it looks like a very busy time but so great to see so many friends and spend time with with your family. I hope you have safe and warm travels when you head north. They are calling for sleet/snow/ ice tonight and tomorrow night. Fun times. I am so done with winter and ready for summer. Take care.

    1. Thanks Chris! We’ve already started watching the weather – not looking forward to cold – but sleet/snow/ice could delay our drive and I don’t like that at all! Hoping it’s all done when we get there!

  3. It’s always so great when we can meet up with friends and family. It seems like many of us were able to do that in the last year! Bummer that Bill wasn’t feeling great for some of it – and that he had to work too 🙁

Hope all are feeling good as you continue your travels – be safe out there!

    1. Thanks Jodee! We had an awesome year! Bill is feeling back to his usual self – thank goodness!
Our next “destination” is the frozen tundra of PA – waiting for the Grandbaby to be born!

    1. FL is always busy for us, but in a good way! So happy we got to add you guys to our great people list.
