VA, and OBX!

We lifted our jacks on a cool early fall morning and headed east on the PA Turnpike. It was a route we had done literally dozens of times. Trees were starting to turn various shades of gold, red, orange with a bit of purple sprinkled in. I know I’ve said it before, leaving is always bittersweet, and this time was no different.

Our first stop was our home Elks Lodge in Ephrata PA, where we stay when we visit our son. While in town, we went for a hike and I got my hair cut – FINALLY! I so badly wanted to reach out to my friends for a breakfast or lunch date, but of course, COVID squashed those thoughts as quickly as they appeared.

Neversink Mountain Trail

Continuing on our way south, we headed to BethPage Camp Resort in Urbanna VA, where we had an install scheduled. Our friends Chris & Frank were working there as workampers, and since their install was delayed due to COVID back in April AND Bill & I have always wanted to check out that area, we decided to join them there.

BethPage is truly a resort, although a lot of the amenities were closed during our visit. Some were closed due to it being late in the season (early October) and some due to COVID. Interestingly there was a Grand Design Rally going on during some of our time there. It was about 50/50 people wearing/not wearing masks. As employees, Chris & Frank were required to wear theirs, and we socially distanced during our visits. Have I mentioned yet in this post how much I miss hugging my friends?

Chris & Frank treated us to a delicious fajita dinner on our arrival day! YUM!
Chris spoiled me with this wonderful gift!
Their dog, Carly – she is a sweetie!
Would love to bring Freya here to play someday

more Halloween
Staying safe in the COVID world

We had a great time visiting with Chris & Frank! Their install went smoothly and before we knew it, it was time for moving on!

It was a fairly short drive to our next stop – Oregon Inlet National Park Campground! We were so looking forward to some down time! Turned out previous clients Walter & Joel were there. How nice to visit with them!

All set up at Oregon Inlet
Its not easy to see in the pic but we could see the Milky Way

Walking across the dunes to the beach
Love the beach

love bird in flight pics – especially pelicans – they are so cool looking!

As usual, we loved the time we spent in OBX!

    1. Hi Barbara! I sure do miss my granddaughters! I’m so far behind on my posts that I haven’t talked about our newest family member – granddaughter Arwen, who joined big sister Freya on 11/27!

  1. You are behind on the blog! Another granddaughter ??? Catch us up!
We’ve only been to the OBX once as part of our Wright Brothers circle. It was a bit gray when we were there too, looking forward to returning when the sun is shining.
Must be fun meeting up with past clients while on the road.
    Congrats G’Ma and G’Pa!

    1. Thanks Jeff! I don’t usually get this far behind – I’m not a fan! There’s been lots going on and struggles with technology. And yes – we have a new granddaughter, Arwen, born 11/27. She’s a cutie and has already stolen our hearts!

  2. Thx for sharing. Stuck in Northern Michigan this winter. It helps to follow the adventures of others. Please tell – What is OBX?

    1. Thanks for reading! OBX is a an abbreviation for Outer Banks NC. Sorry about that – I thought it was commonly known. Stay safe and warm up there in MI!

  3. Great blog as usual. We enjoyed our time with you and Bill. And of course, love the new solar. Looking forward to many nights of boondocking. Hope we can catch up while we are in Texas. Take care. Hugs to you two.

    1. Thanks again for your hospitality! Looking forward to seeing you two in TX! Keep us updated when you get here!!

  4. Knowing you’re in the hill country now, it’s fun to look back and see what you were up to “back in 2020” 🙂

We so loved the OBX and thought about heading there this summer but the OlyPen won out again. I love the walk across the dunes pic – looks like you guys were well prepared for a lovely beach day!

Looking forward to lots of meets ups post-vaccine and a future with hugs.

    1. We’ve had a few meet-ups but always at a distance and thats just not my way! I like my hugs!
We are planning (so far) to return to OBX in May. If you head east – let me know!

  5. Love your haircut! My last one was 6 weeks ago, we’re all shut down in CA. Need one badly! BethPage is such a cool place. We used to do their private label water 🙂 Miss traveling for sure.

    1. Hey! Good to hear from you! We enjoyed our time at Bethpage for sure! Thankfully our clients were able to get us their employee discount – it’s expensive! We miss the west and when the granddaughters get older we will head that way again!

  6. Very pretty! We haven’t been to OBX since the kids were little. I’d like to go again one day.
